Batrek Yassa is a graduate of the Cooper Union where he focused on Graphic Design. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt but Grew up in Jersey City where he currently resides. His sometimes peculiar, but undoubtedly gnarly work is informed by his passion for design. He loves to make beautiful work, and is available for freelance work.

Work

  • C & G Partners, Junior Designer 2016

    Worked with a multi-disciplinary design team on museum graphics, convention identities, infographics, and illustrations. Projects included Macaulay College rebrand, Russel Reynolds identity, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation exhibition design.
  • Work-Order, Intern, 2015

    Worked under the direct mentorship of Keira Alexandra and Kiffer Keegan. Worked closely on the rebrand of MTV2 including concepting, research, initial designs, and motion design. As well as pattern designs for Nickelodeon, Photoshop work and creating presentations.
  • NYC & Company, Freelancer, 2014

    Worked on a number of illustrations for JFK airport under the art direction of Emily Lessard.
  • NYC & Company, Intern, 2014

    Created web, print and motion-graphic assets for several projects, as well as large scale illustrations currently hanging in JFK airport in New York City. Created mockups, style guides, decks, and PowerPoint presentations for a number of projects as well as pictograms for the city’s annual financial report.

    Alternated between Janitor and Cashier at my father’s grocery store since 8th grade.

    Took classes in illustration under the instruction of Henning Wagenbreth, as well as type design and motion graphics within the school’s advertisement department.
  • The Cooper Union School of Art, 2012 - 2016

    Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Graphic Design. Took classes in printmaking, website design, user interface, printed media, information design, typography, and identity design.
  • Jersey City Arts High School Program, 2008 - 2012

    Honed skills in fine arts and some computer arts, focused primarily on painting, drawing, and book design.
  • Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation, 2011

    Received a full-tuition scholarship to study painting and drawing at Colorado College.
  • RISD Pre-College Program, 2010

    Received a full-tuition scholarship to study comic book design as well as figure drawing and color theory.
